LACK OF BETTER ROADS ROTTING OUR FOOD STUFFS – ABOMA RESIDENTS CRY

Residents of Aboma in the Okere district of the Eastern Region are calling on the government to come to their aid with the help of developmental projects. According to them, their food stuffs are rotting in their various farms due to lack of road access to their community, making them tied of living in the community. “Poor roads, no work for the youth, lack of electricity etc killing our community, residents cry. They also stated that with the absence of electricity, learning has become difficult for the pupils in terms of using computer and other electronic gadgets. Speaking at an event organized by River Jay foundation, an NGO that went to the community to donate items like clothes, shoes etc the CEO of the foundation Mr Twumasi Asuboteng expressed his feelings on how such communities have been neglected by our past and present leaders of the country. “Anytime i visits such rural areas I cry” he hinted. Over 1,700 Road Related Incidents Recorded In Ghana within January 2018

Some 1,700 vehicles were involved in road crashes in January this year. Out of the number, 723 were commercial vehicles, 715 private vehicles and 336 motorcycles. In January 2017, 1,440 crashes were recorded. At a news conference in Accra last Tuesday, the Executive Director of the National Road Safety Commission (NRSC), Mrs May Obiri-Yeboah, said 1,774 vehicle crashes claimed 65 lives and resulted in the knockdown of 253 pedestrians. The commission, she said, considered the trend of road crashes as unacceptable, especially occurring just after the Christmas and New Year festivities when the NRSC scaled up public education on road safety. Contributory factors Mrs Obiri-Yeboah said preliminary investigations conducted by the NRSC had established that negligence and disregard for road traffic regulations on the part of drivers were mostly responsible for the road crashes.
