Workers at Gold Fields Tarkwa Mine in the Western Region today, Monday, 12 March 2018, embarked on a demonstration over plans by management to lay off about 2,150 workers. The action of the workers has been backed by the National Executive Council of Ghana Mineworkers’ Union of the Trades Union Congress (TUC). The council in an emergency meeting over the impasse last week resolved that “there should be hoisting and wearing of red bands by all workers in the mining industry, beginning Tuesday, March 13, 2018.” The council further decided that: “There shall be a sympathy strike action by all workers in the mining industry on Tuesday, March 20, 2018. Failure on the part of over 6000 Ghanaians to make good on their word and return home after the expiration of their US visas is the major reason many other colleagues of theirs are ‘bounced’ when they apply for visas to travel to the United States of America. This was revealed by US Ambassador to Ghana, Robert P. Jackson when he took his turn on ’21 minutes with KKB’ as he spoke to GhanaWeb editor, Kwabena Kyenkyenhene Boateng on a wide range of issues. At least 16 people were killed and dozens more injured after lightning struck a Seventh-Day Adventist church in Rwanda, a local official said Sunday. Fourteen victims were killed on the spot as lightning hit the church in the Nyaruguru District in the Southern Province on Saturday, local mayor Habitegeko Francois told  AFP  over the phone. Two others died later from their injuries, he said. He added that 140 people involved in the incident had been rushed to hospital and district health centres, but many had already been discharged. “Doctors say that only three of them are in critical condition but they are getting better,” he said. A mother of two lost almost all of her limbs after a hospital failed to spot she was suffering from sepsis. Magdalena Malec, 31, had to have both of her legs, her right arm and the fingers of her left hand amputated after contracting the disease in hospital. She also needed a kidney transplant to save her life after being admitted with an ectopic pregnancy. Bosses at the Luton and Dunstable University Hospital have now apologised for the medical blunder, which they accept could have been completely avoided. Magdalena said: “Now my life is not a life, it is vegetation — a fight for life. “I was waiting for six months for the amputation of my limbs, with stinking and decaying legs and arms. “Nothing will restore what I had. In one of the worst cases of traffic jam in Nigeria, a Pregnant woman reportedly given birth in a car on her way to hospital as a result of terrible traffic on the road.  A Facebook user identified as Onisodemuya Lishman allegedly shared on her page about a pregnant woman who gave birth inside her car while stuck in traffic. The pregnant woman who got stuck at Azikoro village in Yenegoa was helped by some passersby and community people who had found out that she was in labor. The passersby came to her rescue when they noticed she was in labor and offered to help, they made sure she birthed her baby without contractions The woman delivered her child successfully as she was later taken to a hospital for further treatment. This is not the first time this is happening as some time last year a woman reportedly had a baby while on a BRT. WWE star Jeff Hardy was reportedly arrested on suspicion of driving while impaired in North Carolina, according to Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com. He was arrested and then shortly released  on Saturday  evening, and he will have to appear in Cabarrus County Court in April. The 40-year-old wrestler has been out of action since picking up an injury in September. Hardy, who has been in and out of WWE since the 1990s, underwent surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff in October. According to Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet, he has been cleared by his surgeon but is just waiting on clearance from WWE doctors to return. However, he is yet to get back in the ring as he tries to get healthy for WrestleMania. Meanwhile, the weekend’s arrest is another negative mark on his career outside of wrestling.
