PRESS STATEMENT: COALITION OF UNEMPLOYED NURSES (CUN)

28/04/2018 We the above mentioned group wish to register our displeasure and disappointment on government decision to employ we the health professionals under the Nation builders Corps(NABCO). We the unemployed Nurses have unanimously kicked this half cooked policy by this government into the gutters which seeks to engage us for a period of three years on contract basis. We have gone through series of rigorous training, ethically, physically, psychologically and licensed to practice as qualified Nurses. The policy is not only irritating and repulsive but it is an attempt to hoodwink Ghanaians and to throw dust into the eyes of the masses for the purposes of scoring cheap political point. It will be of good to government to exempt us from this policy in its embryonic stage and go back to the drawing board to hasten our financial clearance. We further believe that this policy is not properly thought through and shows signs of general panic attack as a result of unprecedented number o...

Mexican President to Trump: ‘Nothing & No 1 Stands Above the Dignity of Mexico’

After days of President Donald Trump’s aggressive rhetoric against immigration via Mexico, Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto delivered a stern response to his US counterpart, telling him that “nothing and no one stands above the dignity of Mexico.” The five-minute-long speech was delivered in Spanish and posted in a video on the Mexican President’s Twitter account on Thursday. That same day, Trump detailed his plans to deploy 2,000 to 4,000 National Guard troops to the southern border until the completion of his long-promised wall. It also comes after days of tough talk on Twitter, including the threat of pulling the US out of the North American Free Trade Agreement, which Trump has called Mexico’s “cash cow.” He said, “President Trump: if you wish to reach agreements with Mexico, we stand ready, as we have proved until now, always willing to engage in a dialogue, acting in earnestness, in good faith and in a constructive spirit,” he said. “If your recent statements are the result...

Deadly attack on new year church service: At least 16 killed.

Deadly attack on new year church service: At least 16 dead. At least 16 people have been killed by gunmen in southern Nigeria after a New Year’s Day church service, police say. The group had attended a midnight service before they were ambushed in the early hours of Monday, police told the BBC. The incident, which happened in the oil-rich region of Rivers state, has been linked to growing tensions between rival gangs, local reports say. The gunmen are said to have fired at random, killing some at close range. The noise of fireworks that greeted the New Year celebrations in Omuku town made it difficult for residents to realise that shots were being fired and people were being killed, reports say. Omoku, which is about 85km (50 miles) from the state capital Port Harcourt, has a history of violent crime. Correspondents say there has been an increase in violence in the past year, after a government amnesty programme for former gang members was allowed to lapse. The amnesty had brou...
