Vice President of Republic of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will return to Ghana from his medical leave in the United Kingdom today Thursday February 1, 2018. This was contained in a statement signed by Eugene Arhin, Director of Communications at the presidency. Dr. Bawumia took a 12-day medical leave on the advise of his doctors after he reportedly fell ill at an event. He has since been cleared and is in good health according to videos and pictures released by the Second Lady, Samira Bawumia contrary to reports that he was bedridden. Dr. Bawumia will be met on arrival at the Kotoka International Airport by President Akufo-Addo and First lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo. Human rights activist, Prince Gwamnishu Harrison, has shared the sad story of a Pharmacist in   Umueri Otuocha in Anambra state who allegedly sexually assaulted an eight year old girl who came to him for injection and treatment. 67 senior and junior staff of Central University sacked via text messages. More than 67 senior and junior staff of the Central University College have been sacked in what management claims is a general staff retrenchment. The affected were fired via text messages and given three-days to vacate their positions, a development that appears to have angered a section of them who have worked with the institution for close to nineteen years. Farmer commits suicide after drinking akpeteshie A 51-year-old farmer at Assin Nyarme Bebu in the Assin South District of the Central Region, has committed suicide by hanging after allegedly taking an overdose of the indigenous Ghanaian gin popularly known as Akpeteshie. A self-styled military captain, Prince Ferguson Essel, 27, has been arrested by some army personnel and handed over to the Nsawam police command in the Eastern Region. Captain Albert Kwadwo Evedzi of the 37 Military Hospital in Accra assisted by Sergeant Tengey Anthony of Burma Camp, Accra, were visiting the region when they effected the arrest of the suspect and handed him over to the police after the townsfolk told them they were suspicious of Essel’s claim that he was a military personnel. When the suspect’s room was searched at Ntoaso, a suburb of Nsawam, three military uniforms, a kit bag, a water pack, a beret with a military crown, desert boots and military belts were retrieved. A man identified as Kwaku Akese, 46, has hacked his wife, Ama Nyarkoa, with a machete after a misunderstanding ensued between them. The incident occurred Sunday at Akyem Akroso near Akyem Oda in the Eastern Region. The right hand of the woman is almost chopped off after the suspect inflicted two deep cuts at the upper and lower part of the hand. She also suffered deep cutlass wound on her back, Mouth, neck and buttocks. The woman identified as Ama Nyarkoa, 32, is currently battling for her life at the Asamankese Government Hospital having been referred from the Oda Government Hospital. Fake Military captain arrested at Nsawam A Military Captain has arrested a 27-year-old man identified Essel Prince Ferguson parading himself as a military officer at Ntoaso, a community near Nsawam in the Eastern Region. Adaklu MP shot at; bullets rattle vehicle The Member of Parliament for the Adaklu Constituency says he by no means feels safe in the face of the promise by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) of a safe country. The MP says he was shot at two months ago while returning from a trip to the constituency. “I was shot at two months ago… it’s my first experience… this has not happened to me before.” Agbodza’s comments come on the back of the IGP’s assurance that the police were in charge and that the country was safe under his leadership. 4 feared dead as tipper truck crashes into ambulance At least four people are feared dead in an accident involving an ambulance and a truck at Beahu, a community in the Ahanta West District of the Western region. The truck with registration number GT 7348-15 believed to be heading towards Nsuta for Manganese rammed into the ambulance numbered GV 1453-14 and traveling from Axim to Takoradi. Mahama paid $300,000 for Gitmo It is turning out that the previous National Democratic Congress (NDC) government was paid over $300,000 for accepting to host the two alleged hardcore terrorists from Yemen who were deported from the United States Naval Base of Guantanamo Bay on the orders of former US President Barack Obama and his government. The amount was meant for the upkeep of the two alleged Al-Qaeda terrorists: Mahmud Umar Muhammad Bin Atef and Khalid Muhammad Salih Al-Dhuby as they stay in Ghana. Ten people have been confirmed dead in a gory accident on the Suhum/Nsawam road in the Eastern region. According to reports, the accident occurred at Teacher Mante, a town near Suhum Thursday. A resident in the town, Jesse Amankwah in an interview on Adom News said a driver of a cargo vehicle with GT1624 F from Kumasi to Accra collided head-on with a VIP bus with registration number TE2393-10 heading to Kumasi resulting in the crash. He noted that, the deceased include eight females, a man and a one year old baby. The other four passengers in the VIP bus who survived Jesse added that, the driver of the cargo vehicle loaded with cassava and fish had his hand cut off and was also rushed to the hospital. A/R: Mother dumps newborn baby in uncompleted building in Buokrom A newborn baby who was deserted by its mother minutes after its birth in an uncompleted building has been discovered by residents at Truba, a suburb of Buokrom in the Ashanti Region. Blood stains on the floor and the umbilical cord still attached to the baby at the time of rescue suggest that the baby was birthed in the same building after which the mother bolted, leaving the baby to its fate. Cries from the baby attracted an occupant of the house and five other women who rescued the baby after which it was rushed to a nearby hospital. After being examined by health personnel at the hospital, the case was reported to the Zongo Police Station and subsequently, the baby transferred to an orphanage in the community.
