Police officer detained over death of girlfriend

A police officer with the Konongo Divisional Taskforce has been detained over the death of his girlfriend. Sergeant Bright Opoku was picked up following the death of Vida Frema, a 30-year-old tutor of the Kumasi Girls’ Senior High School. He has since been transferred to Kumasi after the Regional Police Criminal and Investigations Department have taken over investigations into the matter. The deceased was found hanging on a rope in the suspect’s residence at Konongo Low Cost in the Ashanti Region. Unconfirmed reports say the suspect returned from work to find his girlfriend dead on Monday. Relatives of the deceased however suspect foul play and are calling for justice. A blood stained knife is said to have been found in the corner of the room where the deceased is suspected to have committed suicide. Police have declined comment as they await autopsy report due to be released on Thursday from the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. A visit to the private residence of the su...
