Press release
AN ALLEGED ATTACK ON MR ERIC OPOKU – THE MINORITY’S WRONG JUDGMENT, AND MATTERS ARISING.
THE TAKE OF ASUNAFO SOUTH NPP.
Ladies and Gentleman of the media, we thank you for your time and for honoring our invitation at a very short notice.
On behalf of the constituency chairman, council of elders patrons and the entire executive committee of the Asunafo South NPP, we want to cease this great opportunity to wish all our constituents a happy prosperous new year.
Ladies and Gentleman, some few days ago we heard that some unknown men had attacked the residence of Mr. Eric Opoku in Sankore.
Much as we condemn such attacks and urge the police to conduct a full investigation and bring the matter to it logical end, we want to bring to bare some untruths the minority in Parliament led by Mr James Agalga, are going to town and deceiving the good people of Ghana with.
It is therefore intriguing and absolutely refreshing that suddenly, the minority have found their voice when it comes to issues of violence in the Asunafo South. We
Wish and pray that they will continue to possess this found voice forever.
We thought that for the sake of peace in this area, the minority would have been a bit sensitive to handle issues of this nature without any political undertones to enable the security to do a good job by bringing the matter to its logical end. But unfortunately, since it has been their main capital for the past 8 years, they couldn’t help themselves in that regard.
It is worthy to note that NO single NPP youth was involved in that act.
It should be recalled that Mr Eric Opoku was heard on several media platforms few hours after the attack and as it were accused armed robbers of such act.
But surprisingly the minority was helpless in misinforming the world.
The fact still remains that Kukuom Manhene Osahene Kwaku Atarkyi II had not sent any delegation to welcome Mr Eric Opoku on the day of the incidence.
Ladies and Gentleman, what the minority in Parliament failed to acknowledge is the peaceful atmosphere the people of Asunafo south are enjoying under the matured and able leadership of Hon. Osei Bonsu Snr who himself was a victim of dozens of deadly attacks engineered by Mr. Eric Opoku during his reigns as Deputy Minister, Minister and MP for Brong Ahafo and Asunafo south respectively.
We want to tell the minority that Ghanaians are well informed that Mr. Eric Opoku is one known leader in our contemporary politics who condone criminals and would go the extra mile to win power even if every single life would be lost in that course.
Without mincing words, we want to tell the NDC that Mr. Eric Opoku is a no match for us when it comes to politics with issues but a huge problem when it comes with violence.
Ladies and Gentleman, if you look at the deplorable state of the road networks in Asunafo South especially Noberkaw-Kwapong-Sankore-Abuom-Naketey stretch coupled with the poor levels of other infrastructural development that was bequeathed to the current NPP administration, Mr. Eric Opoku can only be described as *a mere Empty Noise Maker* but not any vocal nor potent politician who really means well for his people contrary to what the minority would want Ghanaians to believe of him.
The NPP in Asunafo South as we have already conducted ourselves well thus far would be the least to seek equalization of the 8 years rule of lawlessness and impunity of the NDC led by Mr. Eric Opoku.
Obviously, if time would permit, we would mention over 200 serious crimes with impunity that are listed with us here under Eric Opoku.
We would chose to stay focused on delivering development to the good people of Asunafo South through the good policies of His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, than to inflict pain and anxiety to our own people because of political power.
It is important to put it on record that as we speak, some known NPP boys namely; York Power, Kwadwo Mancudzi and Amponsah are all facing prosecution at Goaso Circuit court for violating the laws of our country.
Something that never happened under Eric Opoku for 8 years.
Ladies and Gentleman, we want to call on the police in the Asunafo South to discharge their duties professionally without fear or favour.
But this notwithstanding, we want to issue a Sturm caution to the the District Police commander ASP Albert Akwasi Boakye and other security agencies in this area to stop using their offices to project Mr. Eric Opoku under the disguise of security.
On two occasions, recently, on Friday 29th December 2017 and 1st January 2018. Mr Albert Akwasi Boakye ordered police escort amid sirens (something the IGP recently issued a directive against) with about 8 policemen and 4 military men for Mr. Eric Opoku to do his rounds without prior information to the chairman of District Security Council Hon. Osei Bonsu Snr.
Again, on the said day of the attack our accurate information can unveil that Mr Eric Opoku had organized an end of year get together party for his partners in crime, present at that event was the fugitive Akwasi Adu whose latest atrocity was the launch of a deadly attack on Hon George Boakye, three weeks before the 2016 general elections. Meanwhile the police blatantly refused to apprehend these criminals that day because they don’t have any interest in those matters.
In the nut shell, we see this attack as strategically orchestrated to elicit public sympathy and also to help him to woo the police to give him an escort on his Christmas rounds which he has succeeded. But going forward, we will not tolerate such acts of indiscipline from the police in Asunafo South.
In spite of these, we will continue to call on all party faithfuls and well meaning Ghanaians to continue to remain calm as we pursue these issue to ensure justice is delivered.
May this year be more fulfilling with many blessings to you all.
Thank you for coming.
