It pledged to contribute to the competitive business atmosphere through the provision of efficient and environmentally friendly technologies in agriculture, agro-processing, post-harvest loses, waste management, transportation, manufacturing, education, energy, ICT and management. The retreat was under the theme, “Golden Age of Business: The Engineers’ Perspective” and attended by lecturers and representatives of industrial establishments.
According to Mr Ebenezer Kakrah Hammah C.E.O, McHamah Engineering Company at Kwashieman in the Greater Accra region,, How will science address the challenges of the future ?, with Ghanaian Engineering students here in McHamah Engineering Center, we’re asking how each science discipline will contribute to Ghana now and in the future.Engineers like to claim their supremacy in all areas of academic discipline as problem solvers. But while this ability will always be critical for engineers, there is more to engineering than just solving problems.
Engineering careers has become highly diverse over the past 20 years. They are now tackling complex social issues such as poverty, inequality, disaster recovery or climate change and also infrastructure development. Their developmental work is mostly found in mega cities and small towns, remote communities and in both high and low-income countries. Our universities still need to catch up with this new reality. A mission to improve the living conditions of the least privileged citizens of the world in Ghana and overseas, seems to be almost entirely absent from engineering education in Ghana.
Ghanaian industries need the flexibility, insight and foresight that comes from thinking creatively, asking critical questions, forming and testing hypotheses and reasoning quantitatively, and engineers have the technical knowledge and the problem solving skills to respond to constant change.
