SUHUM MCE SUPPORTS ISLAMIC GIRLS SHS
The Suhum Municipal Chief Executive, Hon Margaret Darko has visited Islamic Girls Senior High School in Suhum to see for herself the extent of damage caused by last Fridays disaster by the heavy downpour and wind.
The uncompleted dining hall which is still under construction but due to lack of funds the Headmistress, Hajia Sherifatu has managed to temporary roofed it to serve as a convenient place for her cherished Girls to dine. Unfortunately the temporal structure was pulled down completely by the disaster last Friday.
“Thank God the students were not there at that time”, the Hon MCE prayed. She assured the headmistress that she will do all things possible to signal the Government to come to their aid so that the building is rather put up permanently instead of the prematurely roofing it which actually was the decision of the Headmistress Hajia Sherifatu.
The situation of the school’s kitchen which was not cemented drew the attention of the Hon MCE and supported the school with sand and stone chippings for the flooring of the kitchen. The MP for Suhum, Hon Frederick Opare Ansah had visited the school earlier to donate some bags of cement for the same purpose.
The Hon MCE acknowledged the hard work of the Headmistress for the developmental projects going on in the school and assured that her outfit will be ever ready to render support to the school when approached. The Headmistress expressed her gratefulness to the Hon MCE for her support and prayed that “Oliver Twist asks for more”.
According to Baah Samuel the media aid for the MCE, the Islamic Girls Senior High School happens to be the only Islamic Girls senior high school in the country which was established in 1999. Hajia Sherifatu, the first Headmistress of the school and currently she is. Hajia has been described by many as one of the powerful and influential Headmistresses among the girls’ schools in the country. No wonder she is the only Headmistress who can handle the only Islamic Girls Senior High School in the country.
It could be recalled that the former president of Lybia Muammed Gaddafi stopped by the school when he first visited Ghana, to have a prayer and promised to put up a mosque for the school. The school now has a modern mosque situated just at the entrance of school. The school now has over two thousand (2000) students. The school will be celebrating her 20th anniversary next year and wishes to invite all and sundry to come and witness and support the school.
