LOWER MANYA-KROBO: MCE COMMENDS KLOMA HENGME FOR CONSTRUCTING WATER FACILITY FOR THE PEOPLE OF TLAWA

Over 700 residents of Tlawa; a deprived rural community in Lower Manya Krobo in the Eastern Region, have safe drinking water for the first time after several decades of depending on worm-infested and dehumanizing sources of drinking water.

The water facility, a modernised hand pump well, was constructed by Kloma Hengme; the Krobo Advocacy & Heritage association, under their pro-poor socialist intervention initiative ”The Kloma Hengme Clean Water Initiative (KH-CWI).

It is estimated that the water facility will serve over 700 inhabitants of the Tlawa community.

COMMENDATION

At a mini durbar on Sunday July 22, 2018, to hand over the facility to the rural community, the MCE for Lower Manya Krobo; Hon Simon Kweku Tetteh, who delivered the key note address, had commended the association for coming to the aid of the deprived rural community.

He said since the formation of Kloma Hengme, the association has been unique in the way it carries out its developmental activities. Explaining further, he said the association do not only concentrate their projects at one place, but covers all the three Krobo administrative assemblies of Upper Manya Krobo, Yilo Krobo, and Lower Manya Krobo.

”This group, Kloma Hengme, is very unique. I am saying they are unique because they are not only focusing their developmental activities at one place, but the entire Krobo area at Upper Manya Krobo, Yilo Krobo and here too [Lower Manya-Krobo]. I have opened my doors. Everything they want to do, they should come, we will patner and together, bring development to the Krobo area. Ayeeekoo Kloma Hengme”, he said.

Mr Tetteh further said that since water is life, the assembly has resolved to construct water facilities at many rural areas in the middle belt. He said, there is currently ongoing construction of bore holes at the Oborpah East School, at Wawase, and Yonguase. He further said there are plans to construct another one at Tslerdorm but the poor road network to the place is inbibiting the carriage of the drilling machine to the place.

He has advised the people of Tlawa to adopt a good maintenance culture to sustain the water facility built for them by the association.

The Dadematse (Chief) of Tlawa, Nene Tetteh Amenyenu, commended Kloma Hengme for coming to their aid and constructing the facility for them. He said for many years, getting access to potable water was a big problem for residents of the village. The Chief said during the harmattan, women and children used to travel long distances in search of water, and they had constantly been in danger of snake bites and attacks from other harmful reptiles on their ways in search of water.

”Thankfully, there is safe water readily available for us now, and our days of toil are now over”, he added.

Mr Isaac Tamatey Otu, the Chairman of Kloma Hengme, In his remarks, expressed the association’s appreciation to the MCE, Hon Simon Kweku Tetteh, for his various supports of the association so far.

The Chairman said Kloma Hengme is deeply concerned about the plight of the rural communities in Krobo, especially, when it comes to clean and safe water. This informed the decision of the association to institute a pro-poor social interventionist agenda dubbed ”The Kloma Hengme Clean Water Initiative (KH-CWI)” to construct boreholes and Modernised Hand Pump Wells to many of the other deprived rural communities in the entire Krobo area to give them access to clean water.

He said this commissioning ceremony at Tlawa is the third in a row after two other previous commissioning ceremonies also took place at Aketebuor and Bukrum in Upper Manya Krobo and Yilo Krobo respectively.

Chairman Tamatey Otu also commended a Krobo development enthusiast; Mr Adolf Nomo, who played a significant role in supporting the Tlawa project, and has asked all well meaning Krobos to emulate his gesture by supporting the association to construct more water projects to the other deprived rural areas.

He has consequently appealed to all agencies, individuals, NGOs and all well-meaning Krobos who have the development of Krobo at heart to support the association to enable it construct more of these water projects in many other deprived rural communities in Krobo.

Present at the ceremony were Mr Twum Barimah Koranteng; the Executive Director of the Volta River Authority (VRA) Resettlement Trust Fund, a former DCE of Lower Manya Krobo; Hon David Sackitey Asare, and the Executive Coordinator of Drink Safe Water Ghana, Mr Krobea Asante.
