MAKE LAWS THAT WILL PREVENT DOCTORS FROM OPERATING PRIVATE HEALTH FACILITIES – NPP communicator
A communication member of the ruling New patriotic Party ( NPP) for Yepei Kusawgu constituency Mr. Kamara Briamah is urging govt to enact laws that will prevent medical doctors, nurses and other health workers under Ghana health service from establishing and operating hospitals while he or she is still in active service.
Mr. Kamara made this comments on Union 98.1 FM “Sunday political show” today Sunday 19, August, 2018 with Mustapha Sofo, the host, at Buipe in the central Gonja District of northern region when analysing the recent happenings at the Tamale Teaching Hospital over the week by the NPP Kandahar boys.
He allegedly stated that” most of the senior staff and doctors own private hospitals and diagnostic or laboratory centres which is conflict of interest.
Most often than not we hear of diversion of commodities meant for hospitals to private institutions, which goes along way to affect the full operationalization of the hospitals. He opened that the allegations raised by the group that orchestrated the disturbances are not only exclusive to TTH, it is a national canker hence, I will suggest to the government to put up some laws which will strictly bare doctors in govt hospitals from establishing and operating their health facilities. Most at times you will be searching for a specialist in our tertiary hospitals and you will not find him or her because he is in his own theater performing surgery to the detriment of several patients in queue in govt hospitals. The specialists in these referral hospitals are quick to direct and divert clients to their own hospitals at exorbitant cost.
The call for such legislation is long over due to save the nation of men in gloves from raping it’s citizens
As its practiced in the legal profession, a state lawyer (attorney) does not engage in private legal practice as per legal profession act 30 of 1960.
We either need a review of the Ghana health services and teaching hospital act 525 of 1996 or a complete LI to bare medical prationers from playing an inefficient dual role of entrepreneurship and public service
The communicator also condemned the actions of the Kandahar boys” though the boys has a case however, they have reacted wrongly because they should have use non violence means to achieve their mission. I will not encourage it. This is unconstitutional” He said.
Meanwhile, Mr. Robert Yahaya the chairman of Progressive People’s Party Yepei Kusawgu constituency, in his submission, described the NPP boys action as disgraceful, shameful and undemocratic which should not be tolerated by any government.
Consequently, Mr. Aliyu Babana Zakaria (A.K. Ali Chama), NPP communication director Yepei Kusawgu constituency called for toric investigation into the matter.
