PRESTEA HUNI-VALLEY; MP SPONSORS VACATION CLASSES FOR 2,350 STUDENTS
Two Thousand Three Hundred and Fifty junior high school leavers and senior high school students in the Prestea Huni-valley constituency in the Western Region are to benefit from the Member of Parliament and the deputy minister for lands and natural resources Hon. Lawyer Mrs Barbara Oteng Gyasi sponsored five weeks free vacation classes estimated to cost GH¢117,500.00
The classes being organised at senoir high schools at Bogoso, Prestea and Huni-valley would cover selected elective subjects including Geography, Elective Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Economics, Accounting, English Literature, General Knowledge in Arts and all core subjects.
Speaking at the opening ceremony held at the St Augustines Senior High School in Bogoso on Monday 6th August, 2018, Hon. Lawyer Mrs Barbara Oteng Gyasi, advised students to strive hard to acquire information technology, which she said was one of the three main sources of power in today’s global world.
She charged the students to show commitment, work hard, be disciplined and co-operate with the tutors who have sacrificed their time and energy to teach them.
She said after the programme, students who would perform well and adjudged as the best in the examination to be conducted, would be awarded scholarships.
Hon. Mozart Kwaku Owuh, Municipal Chief Executive said without education, poverty would never be eradicated and appealed to the students to make good use of the opportunity offered to them and also desist from the abuse of drugs such as Tramadol.
He also said, the vacation classes was an alternative way for the students to make good use of their time and asked them to co-operate with their tutors to make the programme a success.
Speaking to Modern Ghana during the opening ceremony, students, who had come with their parents to register, said, the free vacation classes programme has scored the Member of Parliament and the NPP government higher marks in national politics.
They expressed appreciation to the Member of Parliament Hon. Mrs Barbara Oteng Gyasi for organizing the free vacation classes programme, they describe the program as laudable.
The students affirmed that the free vacation classes had brought great relief to their parents and they promised to study hard to justify the gesture.
