Gas explosion at Kumasi; several cars, fitting shops burnt down, 10 people injured

At least 10 people have sustained severe bodily burns following a gas explosion that occurred on Tuesday morning at Trinity Gas Stations in Krokrom in the in Kumasi Metropolis. Several cars in and around the station were also burnt down to ashes, including the station, following the inferno, that also spread to a nearby car fitting shop. Some residents, as well as fire personnel who were injured, are receiving medical treatments following the multiple explosions. According to OTEC NEWS’ reporter Nana Agyei Sikapa who was at the scene, fire personnel had arrived at the explosion scene following a distressed call. According to him the cause of the explosion at the premises of Trinity Gas station is yet to be established but it is believed it may be caused by a fire culminated from a refuse dump site opposite the gas filling station. Former president Jerry John Rawlings has said one man’s recklessness in unmasking and threatening harm against Ahmed Hussein-Suale is largely to be blamed for the assassination of the undercover journalist. Ahmed Hussein-Suale who was a key member of Anas’ private investigations team, Tiger Eye PI, was shot dead at Madina Wednesday night while driving home. He was said to have been shot three times in the chest and neck at close range just few metres to his home, allegedly by two unknown assailants who were riding on a motorbike. Court remands 42 year old for possession of firearm

The accused whose plea was not taken, would reappear on March 8.He said on February 7, at about 12:30pm, complainant saw the accused person at Kwame Nkrumah Circle wearing a military vest with military muffler tied around his neck, a black trousers and holding a military bag together with a walkie talkie.   He said the suspect told the complainant that he was a Warrant Officer with the rank of Class One and stationed at Burma Camp but the complainant was not convinced with his answer and collected the military bag from him.   The accused was arrested with the assistance of two police officers and sent to a police station.
