GOVERNANCE REDUCED TO COMICS — ASPIRING SECRETARY
We have been inundated with so much disappointment following the events that have occurred ever since our President H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo assumed the helms as the number one gentleman of this land. We very much remember, having been cured of our normal “Ghanaians have short memory” syndrome how then Candidate of the New Patriotic Party toured the entire country making all sort of promises and giving so much hope.
Hope that brought drivers for change, nurses for change, teachers for change and even the infamous Kalypo craze that culminated in the win for the N.P.P. in the 2016 elections. Somehow after over 21 months of being in office we are seeing very little of the promises that we were told. A complete change of stands in almost every aspect of governance is what we are witnessing.
The most touted policy (Free SHS) has not seen any proper implementation. It remains a fact that funding for this rather important policy still remains a mystery if not securely guarded in the minds of the president only. When critics were talking and giving alternatives, it was received with a huge outburst. You are either a naysayer or affiliated to the NDC.
Fast forward, we are forced to implement a rather interesting double track system just after a year of implementation. Only to be told this is just a temporary measure to solve the increasing number of enrolments.
We are then forced to wonder if Governance had been reduced to comics because if really we have the men and we can’t think that enrolments will increase with such a policy so as to find lasting solutions for them, then we are better of without this change.
As if the problems in the secondary level are not enough, the tertiary institutions have also gotten a fair share of this gross ineptitude being shown by government. If VC’s are not being ousted illegally, inactions are leading to demonstrations resulting to loss of properties. This that can be traced to poor standards on governance which leads us into wondering if governance has been reduced to comics.
Sector by sector, ministry to ministry, agency to agency, governance under this government has seen nothing but draw backs and total set ups. We can however admit some successes and this is limited to churning out huge slogans (Ghana beyond aid), Digitizing Ghana etc.
Unfortunately when communicators of this government get the opportunity to speak to Ghanaians, they are always being economical with the truth. Ghana deserves better and not the case where governance is reduced to cheap talk and comics.
We will therefore call the President of this land to sit up and work to change course from this retrogression to a more development oriented direction. God bless us all!!!
Signed..
AUGUSTINE GYEKUNI
