Thieves break into Attorney-General’s offices; 5 laptops, printer, TV stolen

Some unidentified persons have been staging frequent break-ins at the offices of the Ministry of Justice and Attorney-General in Accra, CorruptionWatch has found. One of the topmost officers affected is the Director of Public Prosecutions, Yvonne Attakorah Obuobisa, whose office was broken into in March this year. In that incident, the burglars took away a laptop computer and a printer. It is unclear the sort of documents and programmes that were installed on the computer and whether they have any consequences on cases that the Attorney-General’s office is prosecuting or studying. This was revealed Wednesday, August 29, by Frederick Asiamah, an investigator on Corruption Watch, a segment on the Super Morning Show on Joy FM. Boy, 17, caught sleeping with a pregnant sheep

A 17-year-old Junior High School student, Emmanuel Owusu, has been caught sleeping with a pregnant sheep at Asante Agogo in the Ashanti region. The JHS student was caught by a friend he visited, having sex with the sheep in a bathroom. 2018 BECE: 2,061 results withheld, 83 results

The West African Examination Council has withheld the results of 2,061 candidates who took part in this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) pending the conclusion of investigations into alleged examination malpractice. A statement by WAEC added that the withheld results will either be released or cancelled after the Council concludes its investigations. A total of 509,827 candidates made up of 263,291 males and 246,536 females sat for the examination. This figure is 8.92% higher than that of the previous year. The candidates were from a total of 16,060 schools and the examination was administered at 1,772 centres. Out of those who initially registered for the examination, (0.93%) of the candidates were absent. WAEC also added following the conclusion of investigations into cases of examination malpractice detected during the conduct of the examination: One hundred and thirty-four (134) candidates had their subject results cancelled for bringing foreign material

Kofi Annan died from ‘pneumonia’-Aide

A former Policy Advisor who was also Director of Communications for Kofi Annan whilst he was at the UN Mr. Edward Mortimer has told the BBC that the Former Ghanaian diplomat died from “pneumonia”. According to Mr., Edward Mortimer who has been throwing some light on what the former UN General Secretary was suffering from said, Mr. Kofi Annan was in good health until the last two weeks. According to him, Mr. Annan suffered from “pneumonia” and did not quite give the family the opportunity to prepare for his death. Describing the late Annan as an “extraordinary” man Edward Mortimer said at no point did he see him angry or raise his voice. A Turkish football team, Gulspor, has sold 18 youth players and bought 10 goats in a bid to earn ‘extra money from milk sales’ which they say will be used to serve the club’s priority needs. Advertisement The club based in the city of Isparta , is one of the oldest clubs in Turkey, founded in 1954. The clubs president Kenan Büyükleblebi confirmed the sale of the players in a statement saying that the step to buy goats was dictated by lack of available finance as there is no essential governmental or sponsorship investment for Turkish youth teams performing in lower leagues. “We must have a constant income,” Büyükleblebi told CNN Turkey. “Funds are overloaded because there is no government or corporate group support for our clubs. We need to get more investment for the kids [competing for the club].” The club reportedly got 15,000 Turkish lira almost $2,600 after selling 18 youth players and plans to have around 5,000 lira ($863) profit from milk sales to cover the club’s expenses.

LOWER MANYA-KROBO: MCE COMMENDS KLOMA HENGME FOR CONSTRUCTING WATER FACILITY FOR THE PEOPLE OF TLAWA

Over 700 residents of Tlawa; a deprived rural community in Lower Manya Krobo in the Eastern Region, have safe drinking water for the first time after several decades of depending on worm-infested and dehumanizing sources of drinking water. The water facility, a modernised hand pump well, was constructed by Kloma Hengme; the Krobo Advocacy & Heritage association, under their pro-poor socialist intervention initiative ”The Kloma Hengme Clean Water Initiative (KH-CWI). It is estimated that the water facility will serve over 700 inhabitants of the Tlawa community.
