Two Nigerian sisters standing trial for human trafficking and prostitution have been remanded by an Accra Circuit Court. Jennifer Chizoba Jeremiah, 22, was remanded in police custody while her sister Angel Chioma Jeremiah, 17, was also sent to a correctional centre. However, they pleaded not guilty to the charges of human trafficking and abetment of crime in the court, presided over by Mrs Abena Oppong Adjiin-Doku. The case was adjourned to April 22, 2018. The prosecutor, Inspector Isaac Abbemeh, told the court that on March 20, 2018 the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit, Criminal Investigation Division (CID), Headquarters, received a complaint from a victim that the accused persons, with the assistance of one Kulest in Nigeria, recruited and transported her to Ghana and forced her into prostitution. Three persons including military officer, policeman together with an unemployed man have been arrested for allegedly attacking and robbing some bank customers. Kenyan opposition politician Miguna Miguna has cried out over his continued detention in a toilet at the country’s main airport for refusing deportation.   Miguna had on Wednesday morning posted a statement on social media saying he remained “detained inside a tiny and filthy toilet” in a terminal at Nairobi’s international airport.   The court ordered that his Kenyan passport be restored and that he be allowed to return.   Miguna was deported to Canada last month in a crackdown on politicians who attended the mock inauguration of opposition leader Raila Odinga to protest President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election. A Graduate of Geophysics at the Ambrose Ali University , Ekpoma , was arrested by NDLEA operatives in Iyeu -Otua community following a tip – off.   THE National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested one Iredia Austine in the Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State for alleged drug trafficking. An Accra High Court has sentenced Kofi Seidu, a driver and a farm manager, who murdered and buried a British Missionary in an old farm at Nsawam in 2010, to death by hanging. This was after a seven member jury unanimously returned a verdict of guilty on him in respect of the charge of murder. However, on the charge of conspiracy to commit crime namely murder levelled against Seidu and Reverend Goodwill Padmore, an in- law of Reverend Sidney Barnes, the deceased, the jury unanimously returned a verdict of not guilty on them. The Court, therefore, acquitted and discharged them on the charge of conspiracy. Seidu who is to be hanged on the charge of murder, has 30 days to appeal against his conviction. Mr Augustines Obuor, who represented the two, prayed the Court presided over by Mr Justice Iddrisu Abdullai for compensation of GH¢500,000, since Rev. Late award-winning dancehall artiste Ebony Reigns born Priscilla Opoku-Kwarteng will be buried today 24 March 2018. The funeral service will be held at the forecourt of the state house in Accra. Ebony died at age 21 in a gory accident on the Sunyani-Kumasi road while returning to Accra from Sunyani on Thursday, 8 February 2018. The death of 4-year-old Aniya Day-Garrett has left the world shocked, especially because of the torture she suffered at the hands of her mother and her boyfriend before she was killed.   Anya was allegedly beaten to death by her mother and her boyfriend on Sunday, March 11. Prior to that, she was starved and had her feet and legs burned. As a result of the torture, the child died in Euclid Hospital in Cleveland on Sunday from a stroke. A Police source in Assin Fosu confirmed the tragedy to the Ghana News Agency saying the deceased Kwame Adu, was found hanging in his room with his sponge tied to the ceiling fan around 1600 hours on Sunday, moments after he had returned from church. 570 dams to be constructed 2018 – Bawumia A total of five hundred and seventy (570) dams are to be constructed in the three northern regions this year as part of the NPP Government’s manifesto pledge to facilitate community-owned and managed small-scale irrigation facilities across the country, popularly known as “One Village One Dam.” Feasibility studies and consultative forum have taken place, with work on the first of these dams set to begin in a couple of weeks, ahead of the rainy season.
